Israel Philately: Cancellations and Cachets

Israel Cancels and Cachets are identified below by 2 different and distinct sets of numbers:

1) A 5 digit numeric catalogue # used by the Israel Philatelic Federation strictly for Special and First Day cancels only, and which may include first and special flights, designated as special cancels. These numbers follow in numeric sequence and incorporate the date as well, by using the first two digits as the year of issue, and the last three digits as the consecutive order of that particular cancel in any given year, such as 08061.   We have used these 5 digit numbers ONLY for the generic covers issued by the Philatelic Services with no cachets. PLEASE NOTE: Where there are a) 1 or more different cachets, b) different stamps that are relevant to the cancel, c) additional cancels and/or backstamps, d) specific registered mail, e) silk cachets, f) combo covers,  g) Maximum cards, h) or other such variables, we have added a suffix of either 1 and/or multiple digits with an appropriate explanation, such as 08061.1

2) A 7 digit alpha numeric number for all other cancels such as: a) special dates/events for which no special cancel was issued, b) slogan cancels, and c) all other cancels. Here we have also used numeric suffixes to identify different cachets of the same event, cancel, etc,. PLEASE NOTE: Other then different stamps noted above (1b), stamps on covers shown on our site, may not always be the same as those on covers sent. Also, older cancels may not always be as fresh and bright as more recent machine cancels; we send the best possible cancels, they cannot be replaced by better ones.
